Before asking whether a product can attract outside investment, I need to understand what I am personally willing and able to invest, and what evidence should justify the next stage.

MetroPing build log showing a product filter for focusing limited development and testing resources

The real cost is larger than development

Building the interface is only one part. MetroPing also needs route logic, on-device detection, background execution, notifications, platform-specific work, backend services, monitoring, privacy and legal pages, and ongoing maintenance.

Real-world testing adds travel time, devices, operating-system versions, bug investigation, tester support, and repeated validation after every important change.

The current manpower model

MetroPing is primarily an independent project. AI accelerates ideas, code, debugging, and repetitive work, while volunteer testers expand the evidence across journeys and devices.

Neither replaces dedicated engineering, quality assurance, product design, support, and operations if the user base grows. A larger launch would eventually require deciding which work must remain solo and which needs paid help.

Why staged investment is safer

The first stage should prove that the problem occurs, riders understand the product, and real users will try it. The next should improve alert timing, battery use, and repeat reliability. Only stronger evidence should justify more features, cities, infrastructure, or manpower.

This creates stopping points. If the evidence remains weak, I can reduce or end the investment without having built an organisation around an unproven assumption.

What evidence should unlock the next stage

Useful signals include repeat journeys, retained testers, specific early/late/on-time alert reports, manageable battery impact, failures that can be reproduced, and a growing share of rides where the reminder is trusted.

A precise public budget has not been finalised. The principle is clearer: define the next amount of time and money before spending it, and connect that investment to a measurable learning goal.

THE INVESTMENT RULE

Do not fund the whole imagined company. Fund the next important proof.

Each stage of time, money, and manpower should earn evidence strong enough to justify the one after it.
