An idea should not pretend the current alternatives do nothing. The more useful question is what each existing solution handles well and whether a meaningful gap remains.

What riders already use

Train announcements and display boards identify stations for everyone in the coach. Maps and route-planning apps explain which lines and interchanges to use. Some riders set a clock alarm, count stations, or keep checking their phone.

These are real solutions, and for many journeys they are completely sufficient.

Where those solutions may feel incomplete

A display may be difficult to see in a crowded coach, and an announcement can be missed while listening to something or concentrating. A route planner usually solves the planning problem but still leaves the passenger responsible for monitoring progress.

A normal alarm follows time rather than the actual journey. Counting stations works, but it requires the attention MetroPing is trying to reduce.

How MetroPing is trying to be different

MetroPing combines the selected route, on-device station detection, configurable one-, two-, or three-stop timing, and destination or interchange alerts in one active journey.

The intended difference is personal timing and reduced checking, not replacing official information or claiming perfect underground accuracy.

The comparison the beta must prove

Being different on a feature list is not enough. MetroPing has to be reliable enough and useful often enough that a rider chooses it over simply watching the journey as they do today.

Repeat use is stronger evidence than novelty. If riders try the app once and return to existing habits, the proposed difference may not be valuable enough.

THE POSITION

Official information for everyone. An additional personal reminder for riders who want one.
